Inventory allocation

Wondering how to re-allocate inventory.

Currently, an order may come in with a scheduled ship date of 6/1/2016 - 20 items are allocated and not available in the inventory.

Another order then comes in with a scheduled ship date of 4/1/2016 - 5 items are not available because of the 20 on the order to be shipped in June.

Is there a way to re-allocate the orders to the earliest ship date?

We're on GP 2015 R2

It depends. How are your sales orders set up? Do they allocate by line, or by document/batch? And are you using a separate fulfillment process?

Looks like it's allocated by line item (sales order setup) and the 'Use separate fulfillment process' is checked

I'm not aware of any utilities that will reallocate, but I think with the way you're set up you can do it manually.

If you change the quantity on the 6/1 order to zero, then back to 20 it should un-allocate the original quantity. Then you should be able to allocate the 4/1 quantity.

Is there a better way?  Something that will eliminate the manual process?

Does this happen on a regular basis? Or is more of an exception?

Regular basis - it's the nature of our business.

    Hi,

GP has a module included in advanced distribution called 'Available to Promise'. It will look at what you have on hand and on order and when the orders need to be fulfilled and tell you whether you can sell the ones you've got. Do you have the Available to Promise module?

Allocating inventory is reserving it, if you change your allocation method on the SOP Document, none of the inventory will be allocated. You'll need a different method to determine available for sale amounts as you're taking orders. The available to promise module will help you determine that.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Thank you so much for the info!  I don't believe we have this advanced module unfortunately.  I'll do some further research.  It sounds like this is what we need here.

If you don't have this module, another option would be to build a SmartList that you can use to determine what needs shipped vs. what is on hand. Let me know. Leslie's suggestion is definitely the way to go if you own that module.

Otherwise, I can post the code for the SQL view.
