Generate statistical baseline forecast takes forever

Dear Madam/Sir,

What is the common issue when "Generating statistical baseline forecast" in D365 F&O takes forever?

I do not get any errors, I have reduced the Item allocation key to only include 2 SKU/items and have a very limited forecast horizon.

Still the generation takes hours and hours, both in batch job background process as foreground.

I continue to get the message: "Forecast generation is in progress. Please wait until it finishes and refresh the form.", but no other issues or errors.

Thank you for your thoughts,

Koen

    Hi Koen,

Can you elaborate on the time you define as "forever"? You mention "hours and hours". Do you have an exact measurement? What exact values did you provide on the dialog?

Did the job end? How many records are processed according to the history?

    Dear Andre,

    Thank you for your response.

    • Can you elaborate on the time you define as "forever"? You mention "hours and hours". Do you have an exact measurement? Did the job end?
      • The job has never ended. The longest it has run for 5 hours, then I closed off as I went home. I was never able to generate any statistical forecast as output.
      • From youtube video's I get the impression that a job should take a few minutes, maybe an hour, but no more (obviously depending on your input).
    • What exact values did you provide on the dialog? How many records are processed according to the history?
      • I am processing only 1 Item allocation key which includes only 2 SKU from 1 company.
      • Only sales orders, transfers and transactions are considered in the item allocation key.
      • Please view screenshot below for other settings (all seem very limited to me).

Yesterday I tried again with new settings in the "Set up Azure Machine Learning connection parameters", again with the same results. The job runs, but never ends and no errors.

Appreciate any thoughts/directions you can share.

    Kind regards,

    Koen

    Dear Andre,

FYI, I have managed to get one statistical forecast out ... but it looks like one I started a long time ago.

Anyways, at least we are one step further and know that is works, albeit unpractically slow.

I will continue to try and work with it. If you have any suggestions/thoughts, please do share.

    Thank you,

    Koen

    Hi Koen,

Could you please show what you have in your "Records to include" filters?

    Dear Dogan,

Thank you for your inquiry. While still slow, I now seem to have the setup working such that I can test functionalities.

It seems that main issue was the fact that I had all SKU included in my 'Item allocation keys' (around 30K). It took a long time to remove these items from the item allocation keys (kept timing out).

Now I have 1 item allocation key with 2 SKU in it ... and with this I can test/view.

When I have to move to more volume I will tackle that issue when I get there.

    Kind regards,

    Koen
