How Planning worksheet for Assembly Order works?

Posted on by 176

I am creating assembly orders through planning sheet. I have created an Item with and set Assembly BOM with both type resource and item. Some of the Items have Quantity per field = 0.
So when I Carry out action message from Planning sheet it creates an assembly order but skips the BOM lines with Type = Item and Quantity per = 0.
Can someone explain this?

At that point the Assembly Order generated is using the Assembly BOM and not realizing certain lines have zero quantity. It's very old code and the original developers did not expect Assembly BOM's to be created with a zero quantity line item. All BOMs either Assembly or Production should have line item quantities. Also, these BOMs should be reviewed periodically to make the line item quantities are valid.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks Alfredo,

One more thing NAV skips the items that has a "zero" quantity but if we use a sales order and fill the Qty.to Assemble field on Sales Line it creates an assembly order and in that it shows the items that has "zero" quantity as well.

    why it is different there?

Any items that has a "zero" quantity will be ignored by NAV. Bear in mind the Assembly is very different than the Manufacturing. NAV only looks at how many assembled items can be made at the time of Sales Order. That being said, you can really only run "MRP" for the raw materials/components of the assembled item.

So the Lot-For-Lot only pertains to Manufacturing. You should use reorder point or Fixed on the "Components".

    Hi Alfredo,

Thank for this answer but I have checked the item and I am using Lot-for-Lot policy So I believe I dont need the Reorder points. I am attaching an image for the item and its BOM. As you can see some of items in BOM are 0. So when I create an assembly order for this item from planning sheet it skips the BOM items whose Quantity per = 0. But when I increase the quantity it shows in the order. So just need to know that is it something that comes with NAV or I am missing something?
