How do I cancel an event registration manually?

Hi there,

we're transitioning all our events from Outbound to Realtime and I've noticed that there is no way to cancel an event registration?
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-insights/journeys/cancel-registration

The above guidlines suggest there is, but the only option is to delete a registration, that is not the same as cancelling ...
When you register a person there are three options (to give a status): register, cancel, waitlist.

But to register someone as cancelled straight away is not an option and when you register a participant to start with and you want to change the status to cancelled that is NOT possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

You're correct—Real-time Marketing currently lacks a direct "Cancel Registration" action like in Outbound. The UI only supports deleting the registration, not updating the status to "Cancelled."
    Workaround:
    1. Open the Registration record in Dataverse.
    2. Manually change the status reason to Cancelled (if the field is unlocked).
      • If not editable, use Power Automate or a custom app to update the msdynmkt_participationstatus field to "Cancelled" programmatically.
    Recommendation:
Submit this gap as feedback to Microsoft, as real-time cancellation support is currently limited and not aligned with the documentation behavior.

    Hi,

In Real-time Marketing (Customer Insights - Journeys), the current experience around event registration status management is limited compared to what was available in Outbound.
While the documentation mentions cancelling a registration, the actual interface doesn't provide a direct option to set a registration's status to "Cancelled" after creation — only deletion is available, which is not functionally or semantically the same.
    Current Limitations:
    • When creating a registration manually, there's no option to set the initial status to "Cancelled".
    • Once a participant is registered, there's no supported way to change the status to "Cancelled"  only to delete the registration.
    • The three statuses ("Registered", "Waitlisted", "Cancelled") exist in the schema but not fully exposed in the UI for status updates.
    Suggested Workarounds:
    1. Use the API / Power Automate:
Use a Power Automate flow or custom plugin to update the registration record’s status reason to “Cancelled” via Dataverse. This requires direct access to the msdynmkt_eventregistration table.
    2. Create a Custom Status Workflow:
Instead of deleting, consider building a custom field or status flag on the registration entity to track "cancelled" internally, until Microsoft enables full status transitions.
    3. Submit Feedback to Microsoft:
This is a clear gap in parity with Outbound. Submitting feedback through the Dynamics 365 Ideas portal or your Microsoft support contact can help prioritize this feature.

      Thanks
