RE: Link Marketing Campaigns Activities to Account

Just found this questions and even though it has been raised some time back let me give you my thoughts on this.
The CampaignActivity in Dynamics 365 classic is used with Campaigns in order to generate activities like emails, phone calls, etc. for the audience of the Campaign. The audience is defined by Marketing Lists in the campaign.
For your scenario of marketing through stages you could implement the following:
1. Define one marketing lists for each of your "stages", Stage1, Stage2, Stage3 and add those to your campaign
2. Create one separate campaign Activity for each stage and assure that only the respective marketing lists for each stage is assigned to each campaign activity
3. The user distributes the campaign activities at the time when it is appropriate
With the classic marketing object in Dynamics 365 you do not have option for automation.

You will find superior segmentation and automation options. With that tool you can define multi-stage automated customer journeys, which route your audience through different paths and stages of communication based on their responses, subscription activities, event registrations and participations, while respecting consent and other compliant marketing capabilities.
