management reporter - automate export of building blocks

hi folks

question from the disaster recovery team today.  is it possible to automate the creation the file that exports the building blocks in management reporter?

I've seen posts about macros that will launch and log into GP, but I have never seen anything in MR.  Does MR even have macros?

Any thoughts on how to automatically generate the file for disaster recovery would be appreciated.

ps. for us, just having the backup and running the below code avoided any need to export & import the building blocks:

       use ManagementReporter

       go

OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'password'

       ALTER MASTER KEY REGENERATE WITH ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'password';

       CLOSE MASTER KEY

NB: Our instance is Dynamics AX 2012 rather than GP.

NB: In our situation, though we'd changed database, we had the same DNS and Instance names (i.e. we use this trick for friendly database configurations: www.mssqltips.com/.../using-friendly-names-for-sql-servers-via-dns).  Not sure if that gave us an additional advantage with regards to the above working; my guess is that it didn't; but it's possible...

In addition to the above, we dropped our DM database and followed the instructions here to regenerate it: www.gpug.com/.../management-reporter-rebuilding-your-data-mart

NB: Others have mentioned having a backup of the MR database; however, this post implies that the building blocks should be exported in the event that that backup would need to be restored to a new machine (as would be the case in many DR scenarios): https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2744330

This post implies that as well as a backup, you'd at least need to record the password used to encrypt the database: https://community.dynamics.com/gp/f/32/t/51259

FYI: Going through these steps myself at present, so apologies that this isn't a full answer; just a few notes on why the solution of just having a SQL backup may not be enough for MR.

    Hi Ian,

There is not a way to automatically export your reports from MR.  But, if you are looking for disaster recovery, you can backup the MR database.  All the reports are held in the MR database, so if you something were to happen, you could restore the database and you'd have your reports back.

    MR doesn't have macros.

The best DR plan for MR would be to have  a good backup of the ManagementReporter SQL database; this database includes all building blocks, setup information and versions of reports produced.
