Microsoft CRM Online Tenant Storage

Microsoft,

I would like to recommend that Microsoft consider increasing the default Microsoft CRM Online Tenant storage from the default 5GB.

Why do I say this? Well, let's look at what has happened in the marketplace over the past

1. Storage Costs have continued to come down as demand in the market place increases.

2. OneDrive for Business has gone from 1TB to Unlimited.

3. SharePoint Online has just changed from 10GB to 1TB for Libraries.

And the story goes on with other cloud storage.

Whilst trying to drive the philosophy of putting everything in the cloud - it's a little hard to utilise the full power and capability of Microsoft CRM Online when you have to constantly delete data as the business grows. It just not make sense.

We would love to see storage at least be doubled to 10GB. From my understanding Microsoft CRM Online has been at 5GB since it first was introduced many years ago?

Does anyone else agree out there?

    HI Chris

    First of all, I agree with you that the Storage seems to be low for CRM, but here are some reasons;

Microsoft CRM Storage Databases are optimised for CRM Performance and is different than regular Storage

The Storage you get for One drive, Sharepoint is not designed of CRM Performance and they do not have to maintain it in the same way as for CRM

Although CRM Online allows you store your documents, it will be better for your CRM Performance architecture and maintenance in the log run you use dedicated document management such as sharepoint for document management as those databases are more optimised for this, and as you rightly mentioned provide alot more capacity.

Also the Disk space microsoft charge is still cheaper than its CRM Competitors such as Salesforce

For the Actual Amount of Disk space Used for just Raw customer data, 5GB is actually Considerably alot, Most of the data allocation is used by System Jobs (Workflows etc) and can be cleared down on a daily/weekly basis to keep your disk capacity free

And Last but Not least, There is also now an option to deploy your CRM in Azure, which means you get more or less the same privelidges as a CRM On premise but on the cloud and you dont have to pay the Charges for additional service via the Office 365 tenant like additional disk storage etc

I know its not the answer you were looking for but hopefully it will help us to architect our CRM solutions more prudently :) Does this help?

    Best Wishes, Raz

Thanks for your reply. Coming from a IT Infrastructure (and DB background) yes agree with raw data is minimal.

I don't like the thought that we need to delete customer data to keep within the 5GB limit as it defeats the purpose of having all our customer data in one central location in the first place. When we start deleting data from the system it starts to put gaps in our activity with the customer and we are no longer up to speed as we should be.
