Inventory status change for Marked/Reserved item

(1) ShareShare

Hi,

just a quick question regarding the inventory status change for an item that has been marked.

Here's the context:

we made a developpement to automatically change the inventory status when we do the PUT in our fixed location. Now we're having trouble to find a way to change the inventory status for an item that has been marked has the inventory status change can't be done on the reserved stock. Is there a setup that I'm not aware of or do we need to develop something ?

Thanks.

How are you using Inventory status in your Fixed locations? I'm wondering if you could either not reserve at Inventory status or reserve only the inventory status that the items get after reaching the fixed location.

We have a disctinct inventory status when the item is at the load receiving, this inventory status is not available for sales as we don't want the product to be available until it has reached the fixed location. Once it's in the location then we want the inventory to become available by changing the inventory status. The problem is that the marking is doing the reservation at a higher level so when we reach the final location the inventory is already reserved because of the marking.

Hmm. I have a similar requirement and came up with the same solution! Can you put Inventory status above Location in the Reservation hierarchy, and put the status 'Available' onto the Sales order line?

In this way, Inventory will only be reserved if it is available.

On the down side, you will not be able to reserve inventory until is it available! This means you can't release an order to the warehouse if there is not sufficient inventory in the fixed location(s).

Inventory status is always above location.

There is a setting on the warehouse, called "Remove reservations and markings" (under Inventory status change section in the Warehouse fast tab).

If you don't have that setting, find the corresponding hotfix.

first of all, thank your for your input. I saw this option, but in my situation I want to keep the reservation as this is the purpose of the SO/PO marking.

I ran into a similar situation as we do automatic reservation on sales order entry. My expectation was to see the reservation form pop up. As Vanya described the Inventory status is always above the location. As it appears the reservation can be  done only against available inventory. Instead of getting the reservation form showing me what is available for reservation I get an error showing that the 'Blocking status can not be set for Sales order transaction'.

Anyone using automatic reservation on sales order entry?

    Hi JoeGr,

I have a customer using automatic reservation on sales order entry.

You are most likely seeing the message 'Blocking status can not be set' because you have an Inventory status set on the Sales order line which has 'Blocking' ticked. You cannot sell inventory which is 'Blocked', so you cannot put these type of statuses on the order line.

    Thanks Guy,

you are correct, the only stock I have is in a status of blocked. Still, I would have expected to see the reservation form come up ( the one that usually shows if you don't have any available inventory) instead of the 'info log'.

Unless there is a way to control that behavior I find it irritating for the users.

    Hi

The autoreservation form will come up (if you have auto reservation turned on, and there is no stock available with the correct status), but you have a different problem. On the Sales order line -> 'Line details' fast tab -> 'Product' tab, have you got an Inventory status set? On a sales order, the status set here must not be a 'Blocking' status, else you'll see the error you are getting.

Hi Guy, I just tested this one again. All available (inv. Status) is reserved. When entering a new SO line for that item (on-hand is in Inv. Status = blocked) the reservation form pops up as expected.
