Ordering products in Kit Items

Hi Everyone,

I recenlty set up a number of products as kits as they are made of two components and this allows me to share the one component on various kit items. The problem I have now found is that when I run a sales report to compare sales with stock on hand to create an order I find that the sales are on the kit item and the stock on hand value is with the individual components of the kit. It is quite a task to then put these together in order to work out how much stock to order. Is there an easier way? Is there a way to assign the sales of the kits to its individual components?

Thanking you all in advance :)

Elias

Thank you for getting back to me. It seems that this work around is the only option. however how can you track inventory or run phiscal counts against the items components. Example: Item A has 10 pcs. Item A also is an item component of kit item B. if I sell Item B it will not impact the quantities of item A. So how are you tracking inventory if you dont build the kits?

the only work around I can come up with is that we keep the inventory on all kits at 0 (zero). Then run a movement report on the components. Anything which is a - (negative) is assumed to have been used to build a kit which has been sold. This way you can track both sales and inventory on the components which makes more sence to track for ordering purposes.

Not the best solution thats for sure, but this what we have to work with.

My friend is having the same issue printing a sales report for an item that can be sold individually and as a part of a kit. did you find a way? what is it?

    Thanks for your reply Geoff,

I have considered Assemblies, but this raises a couple of other issues.

Here is an example. one of the items we sell is bathroom vanities. They are made up of a vanity top and a cabinet. Individually the sale price of these two items is greater than the price of the vanity as a whole, I notice with assembly items that the invoice only shows the components with their discounted price which means customers can be smart and return only one item in effect paying much less than they should have for the other. It also means sales staff have one more thing they can get wrong with returns as they may forget to return both the cabinet and the top.

Is there a way perhaps to set up the invoice to show the Assembly item as it appears in the POS with its' RRP and then it's components listed beneath with no price?

Remember the differences between kits and assemblies.

Kits take items out of stock when created whereas assemblies are not taken until sold.  You want to try assemblies if you are concerned about inventory levels.
