Prototype items

Hi,

Before a product master finished good item A is released to production, it goes through a prototyping phase. The end users will create the BOM versions,.... When item A is created as a released product, it will start to show in the items list like for example in the sales order. 

Is there a way to hide it from the item list until a certain point when the business can take a decision that it can be used? I am aware of the default order setting , 'stopped' field, however looking for other options where the item will NOT show in items list at all.

    Hi Sam,

    System does not filter stopped items, you need to customize the logic.

    On the sell tab of released product, there is a sell start/end date to control the sales date.

    Hi Sam,

    Aren't prototypes different from the 'final' products that you later on produce and sell to your customers?

    Would it make sense to your business if you have a prototype item and once it got approved a new finally released item?

    Also think about the costs related to prototyping and whether one wants to analyze those costs later on in detail. This might be easier with having separate prototype released products.
