Client in a Workgroup machine connecting to AOS running in AWS server (Domain)???

Hi,

We have our Servers running in AWS cloud. Have a domain controller in AWS and AOS installed there. We also have AX client installed in cloud server. Users need o remote desktop to the client machine in AWS, all the time to connect to AX/AOS. This works flawlessly.

Our requirement is not to go through remote desktop every time when the user wants to connect to AX/AOS in AWS cloud.

Please note user machines are in a Workgroup and not in a Domain. Now, I have managed to install AX 2012 R3 client in local desktop, although its not in a domain. I also made sure, I am able to ping the AOS server and ports 2712, 8101 and 8201. Also, able to log in with the domain user in AWS using /netonly option from local workgroup desktop where the client is installed. I also read in few posts and made AOS server entries in hosts file as well to resolve it to the IP (just in case).

But, I am still receiving the error "Connection with the Application Object Server could not be established." Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks,

RJay

    Hi RJay,

With AWS you mean Amazon Web Services or something else?

Computers running AX components like the client should belong to an active domain. This is stated in the AX 2012 system requirements. A workgroup is not supported. You can try to use a VPN connection.

    Andre,

Yes, that's correct.  I am referring to my servers being in Amazon Web Services.  I do understand that the AX 2012 system requirements mandate the desktop to be in a domain. I do have to do a VPN from my workgroup desktop to connect to AWS cloud.

Being my desktop in a workgroup i was able to install the AX client successfully, referring to our forum. Similarly, I was thinking if anyone has connected successfully to an AOS server deployed in a domain from a Workgroup desktop.

    Thanks,

    RJay

    Hi Rjay,

I cannot help you further now. I have never attempted to start AX from a client machine which was not part of a domain.

Thank you, Andre.  Just in case someone else can help,

Now, I am receiving a different error message "Unable to log into Dynamics AX". When I looked at the event viewer on the client machine, here is the full message.

    From Event Viewer:

    *******************

The description for Event ID 110 from source Microsoft Dynamics AX cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Unable to connect to an Application Object Server. A company name or server name may not be specified correctly in the client configuration, or the server specified may not be available.

    Hello,

Unsure, how to install the Client, because I am getting the below error and AX will not allow to proceed for further installation (Next button is disabled) in my case.

    Please refer below screenshot.

What if you click the Error link? You should get more info from there.

Please note that you should use a domain account when installing AX components.

    Hello Nikolaos,

My mistake for confusion, actually I was asking the question to Rajinikanth about his statement “Please note user machines are in a Workgroup and not in a Domain. Now, I have managed to install AX 2012 R3 client in local desktop, although it's not in a domain. ”. Reason is I am unable to install thus asking him, how he has installed the AX client in a Workgroup? Because AX will not allow.

    Regards

    Bikash

@André Sir is correct that to connect AX Client to AX AOS both the server and the client systems should be in the same active domain.

@RJay it true that after some tricks and bypasses AX client can be installed without connecting to any AOS which is in the workgroup or Active Domain., however, you will keep getting the errors as reported.

The best solution is to create a Domain and then install the AOS followed by AX client

    Hi Rajinikanth,

You will have to add your client machine to the domain where AOS is installed.

    Thanks
