One of my users is reporting that they repeatedly have to re-add items to their favorites. they will stay for a random amount of time sometimes a day sometimes 2 weeks. I have checked this and I have seen it myself when logged in on her computer.

    Hello,

This could be a case where the .xml menu files are corrupted and need to be recreated.  To do this, the .xml files can be deleted or renamed with SL closed.  Upon opening SL again these .xml files should be recreated.

If not, the cachemenu setting could be set to 0 in the userrec table.  If this is the case it can be manually set to 1 and the .xml files will be recreated.

    I hope this information helps.

    Hello,

I was checking in to see if this information was useful to you.  Is there anything else I can help you with?

It was useful but has not fully resolved the issue as i can't find the cachemenu setting i found the Favorite in C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp\USERFavorites.xml

When renaming the xml file to USERFavorites.xml.old the user then relaunches and the favorites we added are still there and a new USERFavorites.xml is in the above directory...

We may (or may not) have a unique setup where the application files are all on a network share and the users run the app remotely but it creates the XML files locally. Any idea if this would cause any issues with the favorites.

Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

The cachemenu setting is a field in the userrec table.  If the .xml files are recreating, then it doesn't need changed.

From what it sounds like, your setup is okay.  It should not cause any problems with the .xml files.

Hello, I am a IT Support Manager at my company, and we have 2 users who are using Dynamics SL and when both lock there computers and come back there favorites disappear and they have to re-add them. This is not all the time though, just randomly. Sometimes a few will disappear or all of them... Could someone send some advice on this?

Do they have a roaming profile or is it local?

The file C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp\USERFavorites.xml is probably getting mangled somehow. See if you can delete it and let it get recreated when SL starts to solve the problem.

    Hello,

The first thing to try would be to delete the user's .xml menu files. These are typically located at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Dynamics SL\MenuCache. Delete any .xml menu files for the user and then have them log back into SL. These files should get recreated.

You may also want to monitor the .xml menu files. Take a screenshot, notes, etc of what the folder looks like when the menu is OK (preferably immediately after you delete those files and allow them to recreate). Then, when the favorites disappear, take a look at the menu files again. I would think that when the menu disappears/corrupts there are either .xml file smissing in the user's profile or the .xml files don't exist int he user's profile at all. It might be worth checking to see if there is some sort of policy on the user's profile that is removing the files. If the files are getting created initially then the problem has to be the user's profile or a policy on the profile itself.

You may also try deleting the user's profile on that machine, then have the user log back in and allow it to recreate.

The users are using local profiles... Could that be an issue?

No. If you told me they were roaming, I could think of some things that would cause it. Something is breaking/changing the file mentioned above.
