Finite capacity in MRP

My batch process manufacturing company is currently using GP2010 including Manufacturing.  We are frustrated that the MRP solution pays no attention to available capacity leaving my planners with lots of work to do to move multiple MOs created by MRP to take account of the real capacity in our plant.  We plan up to 6 months ahead, so you can imagine the pain that occurs if we get a one day outage and all the plans have to get moved.  CRP in GP shows us where the conflicts lie but gives no tools for automation of scheduling.  Does anyone know if either :

a) it's on the roadmap for future improvements to GP Manufacturing ?

b) there are 3rd party GP bolt on options that will allow MRP calculation to take account of resource (people and machine) capacity ?

Cheers, Alan

Alan, have a look at Galaxy APS.  I don't have any expereince with it but it looks like it has the functionality you're looking for.  planettogether.com/platform-diagram

    Alan -

I would also look at Preactor (this is a finite scheduling software add-on to GP Mfg).

Also, many Batch manufacturers use Vicinity Manufacturing or BatchMaster - both of these software packages replace GP Mfg with software more suited to Process manufacturing.

By the way - are you using Sales Forecasting and Master production scheduling in GP? Depending upon your requirements, these modules may (or may not) make production scheduling easier.

Microsoft has not significantly enhanced GP Mfg since release GP10. I would not expect MBS development to enhance the mfg module very much in near future.

Good Luck - let us know how it goes for you.

    RE: Finite capacity in MRP

Thanks Bron - yes we do use Sales Forecasting and MPS and we've already spotted that if we tighten up or forecasting (currently in monthly buckets) then our breakdown of suggested MOs gets better.  Just to make life complex we also have parent-child type manufactures with up to four precursors.

I've taken a look at both Preactor and Frank's suggestion and will now start discussions with my GP support partner.  Thanks to both for the inputs.

    Al.
