The following error was fixed in 21.4 for SaaS:
The changes to the Custom Report Selection record cannot be saved because some information on the page is not up-to-date. Close the page, reopen it, and try again.Identification fields and values: Source Type='23',Source No.='10000',Usage='Vendor Remittance',Sequence='1'
For OnPrem it was fixed in build 21.x.53624.0 as far as I can track back.
It could be that this fix will also resolve your issue with customer statement. Based on what you describe that it used to work but it suddenly stopped working, I think this issue is due to a bug in our code.
What release are you on? OnPrem or SaaS? If SaaS, the fix will be applied automatically if you are on latest release already. Otherwise, schedule an upgrade to at least 21.4.

I tried to something from the drill down menu, still the same.
Not sure why it is not working,

With these settings I was able to send statements till 10th Feb, it was nicely working, all of a sudden the error came up

Yes, but you have to actually have a value in the layout field as well.
Try doing the drill down in that field and select a layout.
