Item Ledger or Posted Invoices for total Sales in Power BI Report

Hi,

I am new to Business Central and am building a sales dashboard for a clients. I based my dashboard off of the Sales Invoice table.

I recently inherited different sales dashboard from another customer, but instead of using Sales Invoices this client used the Item Ledger. Can you some please tell why you would do this and is there any advantage? Thanks

I have the same question (0)

The item ledger entries can be updated with inventory cost changes. For example you may issue an invoice but the real costs of goods sold aren’t yet known as you’re waiting on a purchase invoice for freight costs. The COGS will then increase at ILE level but not at post sales invoice line level as that is static data. I’d say your selection is more based on the business. At least with ILE’s you capture both. It’s just a way busier table - so report performance and the business process will play a factor

JAngle  Thank you for the in-depth response. It was very informative. I want to clarify my understanding. My goal is to build a dashboard for a sales team and managers.

Would using posted invoices be an accurate reflection of total sales or would I have to use ILE to take into account credit memos and returns?

If I need to use ILE how do I link credit memos and returns to the original invoice?

I hope questions makes sense. I am having difficulty understanding the Sales process in BC and how to get an overview of sales.
