I have created new activity type "Approval request".

How can I sync to outlook?

I read that a workaround will be creating workflow on create of activity and create appointment and sync appointment to outlook.

    Hi,

I think this is a design limitation.

You can synchronize only Emails, Appointments, Contacts and Tasks from CRM to Outlook and the reason behind this is that for a custom entity, the application wouldn't know what to map it against.

I think the workflow solution you found online, might be your best workaround for the time being.

Also, this has been suggested to the CRM PG in the past: ideas.dynamics.com/.../727563. You can vote on it if you want.

    Hope this helps!

I read that a workaround will be creating workflow on create of activity and create appointment and sync appointment to outlook.

    I see two workarounds:

    1. As you suggest, create a workflow that creates one of the types of entities that can be synced with Outlook.  In your workflow you could set the regarding field of the synced activity with your custom activity for convenience.
    2. Re-use one of the entities in the list below.

I would like to correct an earlier response that listed just a few entities that can be synced with Outlook.  Here is the full list:

    • Email
    • Appointment
    • Contact
    • Fax
    • Letter
    • Phone Call
    • Recurring Appointment
    • Service Activity
    • Task

The Letter and Fax entities are so rarely used, that they might be a good candidate for your custom functionality.
