You will need to create the Client Installation Package using the Create Installation Package option GP setup (CD1). After that,  you can run this installation package on all client machines to complete the installation. Refer to the Installation Package Section of the GP 10 Upgrade documentation for more details.

You can also install GP on Client machine directly from the CD. However, using client installation package is preferred method. You can also specify the location of the modified dictionary during installation

Hi, an alternative to creating an installation package is as follows:

    1. Create an ODBC that connects to your SQL Server on the client machine. Make it SQL Native Client, and might be best to put it in the system DSN. Make sure no boxes are ticked inthe windows following the log in window. Choose to test the data source at the end.

    2. Insert the GP CD in the client machine and follow the on screen steps. Choose not to create an ODBC if asked.

    3. When install is finished, don't launch GP. Share out the GP application folder on your server. Then copy its contents and past them into the GP application folder on your workstation - This way you are sure that the server install and the workstation install are at the same version (you may have installed a service pack on the server that will not be included on the CD).

4.If the install path on the workstation is different to the install path on the server, you will have to amend your dynamics.set file....son if the server istall path is D:/Dynamics...and the workstation is the default path of c:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP, you will want to replace all instances of D:/Dynamics with c:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP in the dnamics.set file on the workstation.

    5. There are numerous issues that can arise, but all are easily fixed.

The main issue is that you obviously have no experience with installations. Therefore any issues you have with the above approach, you will most likely have to ask here again. Not a problem. Who installed GP for you first time? Typically initial client installs would be performed by your partner and they would concurrently train you on how to do this for the future so tht you are in control.

some how Stewart is right but easy way to install client through CD and create and ODBC connection through server machine.

That's simplest way to install client.

Thats correct, it is the simplest way to install - direct from the CD.

Except in cases where GP looks like it has been in use for a while. In this case the actual version of GP in use may have been service packed up to a version different from the CD. You have two choices - install the CD version and then try and find out what version the existing install is on and service pack up the workstation you just insalled - or - copy the contents of an existing install and overwrite what the CD installed.

    Best regards,

How about you go to training? There is no reason why you should be trying to install a piece of software as complex as this one without having at least the basic System Manager training. Detail steps? There are detail steps in the Installation manual, but I assume you did not bother to read these either.

You have to keep in mind that no one on this forum knows anything about your environment, so all you will get is a bunch of generic responses. No one can assert if you are using third party products, or sharing your forms and reports dictionaries, in which case you will need to make changes to your DYNAMICS.SET file.
