I am designing security model for one of our global client and came across situation where i have to go more than 5 levels business unit Hierarchy in order to provide granular level of access ( Region, country, State/district, branch) . Just want to check with others on whats is there take on going more than 5 level of business unit hierarchy in regards to performance of the system.

I've never experienced performance issues caused solely by the number of levels in the BU hierarchy. But where it becomes a problem is if you have to share a lot of records with other users or teams. In this situation the size of the POA table becomes a bottleneck and performance suffers.

Carefully consider your security requirements. Are there alternative designs that could meet the requirements without such a complex set-up? Can you push back on any of your requirements and implement them later only if they become vital for the business?

    Hi Chris,

This is an old post but just thought i share my research as I need the same answer too. The link below doesn't answer your your questions but as Neil touched on the POA table, its worth noting that the more B.U, the more records that will be shared by users, impacting the POA table .. community.dynamics.com/.../principalobjectaccess-performance-recommendations
