Missing Document numbers

Hi

One of my clients are doing an audit and it was discovered that there are breaks in sequence in purchase order numbers and sales order numbers.

I did a research not only in the front end, by running some reports and going directly to the data entry screen, but also in the back end and I am not able to locate the missing document numbers in any tables.

Has anyone noticed this scenario before?  If yes or no could you think of any reason why this could happen?

    Ok, just noticed that I made a grammatical error, so it should be "one of my clients is doing an audit"....   The issue remains....  Any thoughts on the cause of this issue will be appreciated?
