DYNAMICS database

Hi folks

A prospect is considering dropping AX in favor of GP.  I am wondering if AX uses a DYNAMICS database the same way GP does, that if successful to run parallel I would need to install GP with a differently named DYNAMICS database.

thanks in advance.

Speaking with an SEE from Dynamics AX, normally Dynamics AX has a system database named something more like 'MSDynamicsAX', but it could be named differently depending on the environment.

But, to answer your question, Dynamics AX has a AX main database and an AX model database, so slightly different than system and company databases that Dynamics GP uses.

    Thanks

    thanks Mike and Almas

Almas your reply implies AX does not use a DYNAMICS database for system tables as GP does, but your reply talks about company data not the system data that would be in the DYNAMICS database.

I know I can have a different DYNAMICS database name if needed for GP.  Will I need to however?  Does AX also make use of a database called DYNAMICS?

I am glad to know that. :D

AX don't use database same as GP, In GP we have company databases separately where as in AX all companies are in single database.

Since you tag GP2016, you can use different name for DYNAMICS, like DYNAMICS16,DYNAMICSGP16 etc

If you deploy GP on the same SQL database then you will need to name the DYNAMICS database something different.  GP is multi-tenant so naming it whatever you want should not be a problem.
