Data export/import through Definition Group

Under System administration->Common-> Data export/import

We have an option to export data by creating a definition group.

I'm trying to export data from RetailPeriodicDiscountLine and RetailPeriodicDiscount tables by creating definition groups but I'm getting empty *.dat files for both tables although the metadata is showing in *.def files.

I've exported data from InventTable and DirPerson and its working fine and showing data.

Any idea what's the problem here guys ?

Hi

Personal experience all I can say that if you want to make your life easy fot Data Import use DIXF,,,Excel Add-in is useful for Export purpose. For import DIXF is best

Ernesto I agree with you, DIXF is the better way but our business user wants to know why

" System administration->Common-> Data export/import " is not exporting data for RetailPeriodicDiscountLine and RetailPeriodicDiscount tables, whereas it is exporting data for other tables like InventTable and DirPerson etc.

Is it a Microsoft bug or do we have to make any special configuration change while creating Definition groups for these 2 tables ?

Hi,

How do u say that your *.dat files is empty. In which way you confirm this file is empty.

And I have a doubt that the table's property Abstract is set to yes and Support Inheritance. So you have to check for related tables and its data, this may be the reason that the definition group is not supporting.

Hi Muhammad,

The tables you mentioned are base tables supporting inheritance. It will only export the records related to the field InstanceRelationType which matches a certain table ID. If there are no records with the instance ID 17240 (RetailPeriodicDiscountLine) or ID 17239 (RetailPeriodicDiscount) then the record count is zero and no lines are exported.

E.g. RetailDiscountLineOffer is extending the RetailPeriodicDiscountLine table with an ID 101710.
