Hi,

I want to backup Dynamics 365 for Operations(AX) about sandbox environment

I know database data is taken by SQL Server backup from SQL Server management studio.

How about OS data ?

(Windows server backup? or Azure VM backup?)

Thank you.

    Hi,

    Thank you everyone.

Our project team don't have authorization about Azue classic portal and any subscriptions.

Maybe it is easy we deploy a new environment and our custom programs.

    Thank you!

Only AX2012 cloud environments are "hosted in Azure Classic".

Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations Sandbox environments are hosted by Microsoft, in Microsoft's Azure subscription. Partners and customers' can't access that subscription, and therefore can't take VM level backups.

If one has deployed D365FFO Demo or Dev environments to their Azure subscription (from "Cloud hosted environments" page in LCS), those can of course be backed up.

But there is really no need to backup D365FFO VMs. If you want to create a copy of existing environment, you should deploy a fresh environment, then apply your code, and create a service request for MS and ask them to copy data from another environment to your new environment. If you have a database backup that you want to use, you can manually restore it to a sandbox environment database.

AX is a hosted environment in Azure Classic, so you could try to navigate to your Azure Subscription from the LifeCycle Services site where your environments are listed, and see what options are there for taking a snapshot - whatever Azure Portal offers. The link is definitely there for AX 2012, I am unsure about D365fF&O Sandbox, but since only Production should be locked, I do not see why they would not publish those VMs too (so you could change the VM subscription size, etc.)

As it is very easy to deploy a new environment, you need windows back-ups. Just the data should be sufficient.
