Hello Community,
I would like to get feedback and suggestion if the use of the Dynamics 365 Marketing application is the right choice to handle the following requirements:
- Be able to send mass email communication to identified group of contacts
- Be able to view who were sent the email, and the ones that did not view, viewed and responded
If Dynamics 365 Marketing is the right choice, between Marketing List and Segment, which is the right approach to fulfill the requirement?
Thank you!
Hi Eric,
The journey will automatically go to the stopped state when its end date passes.(The value of end date field we set.)
You could refer to description of different status reasons of customer journey.

Hi Clofly,
Thanks for your confirmation!
So after we have "Go Live" with a customer journey, once all the emails have been delivered, is the best practice to then "Stop" the customer journey? Or should we leave it in "Live" mode and let it continue to run? Reason I asked if we should "stop" it is that once all the emails have gone out, I guess its job is done?
Any thoughts on that?
Thank you!
Hi Eric,
Yes, a stopped customer journey is not able to start again.
Before going live customer journey, be careful to check whether you have configured your customer journey well.

Clofly
Hi Clofly,
Thanks again for your inputs!
For Customer Journey, it looks like once we have "go live" with the customer journey to send out the emails, the same customer journey cannot be used again, is that correct? For example, if I "Stop" and "Go Live" with the same customer journey, it doesn't look like it will send out emails again. I will have to create another new customer journey if I want to send out the same email to the same people.
Am I correct, or did I miss anything?
Thanks!
Hi Eric,
Yes, the customer journey is the only way to send marketing email to contacts, and we need to add at least one segment to the customer journey.
However, there are two ribbon buttons in marketing email form, which can help us send marketing email quickly.
Send now:
When all we want to do is write a quick marketing email with simple personalization and send it to a few selected recipients.
It will automatically create a static segment and a customer journey to complete whole process.
Test send:
We can send marketing email to a specific mailbox to test and check that how our design will exactly appear on different clients or devices,(Outlook 2016, Outlook Web, Gmail, iOS and Android.)
and a draft status marketing email is also supported with the Test send feature.
Due to it is used for test purpose, so customer journey is not required for this situation.

Clofly
Hi Clofly,
Thank you very much for your inputs!
To send mass email using segment, is customer journey required as well? It appears segment cannot work without defining a customer journey, is this correct? Or can I trigger a marketing email and specify the segment as the recipient of the email directly?
Many thanks again!
Hi Partner,
Yes, Dynamics 365 Marketing is able to meet both of requirements above.
The right approach would be Segment, because Dynamics 365 Marketing will only send mass email to members(contacts) of segment,
if you would like to send mass email to members of a marketing list, the solution is to build a marketing list based segment.
Please refer to following article for comparison between Segment and Marketing List:
