Setup duplicate detection rule

The duplicate checking for "name" of an Account isn't working properly. We have an account called "The Mall Plaza" already existing. A user created "The Mall Plaza, Inc" a few days ago, and it did not pop up to alert for a possible duplicate. I also created "The Mall" and I was able to create it.  How can I get the duplicate detection rule to pop up the message that it found a possible duplicate for this issue?

Dupe rules are notorious for taking quite a while to be published.  Especially if you have a pretty good size DB for them to chew through.

    Hi,

As per your screenshot, this rule is still in the Publishing state.

It might take a while to make it Published.

Once it is Published, it should work as expected.

That didn't work.  I did what you mentioned.  However, I created a record with the same exact name as another record out there, but just added a 1 at the end and it let me save it.

    RE: Setup duplicate detection rule

    Hi,

    Thank you for your query.

By default, the criteria to match Account names is "Exact Match".

This means, when you try to create an account with the exact name "The Mall Plaza", the duplicate detection rule will invoke and notify a user about it.

However, you can change this behavior:

    • Go to Advanced Settings -> Data Management -> Duplicate Detecition -> Duplicate Detection Rules.
    • Open Account with the same Account Name rule.
    • Unpublish the rule and in the rules section, change the criteria as per your need (Same First Characters or Same Last Characters):

    • Save and Publish the rule (please note, publishing rule might take some time).

    Here is an example configuration:

Please note, in my opinion, do not rely only on names (it is very hard to catch duplicates on names as there could be errors in spelling).

I recommend to set up rules also based on Business Phone or Email, this will be the second layer of validation.

You may add another line to the same rule, or you can create a new rule altogether.
