Importing Discount List Items in CRM 2011

Hi there,

I've been tasked with implementing CRM 2011 for one of our clients. I've used CRM for some time now but I'm fairly new to the implementation side of things so I'm just learning as I go.

I've hit a bit of a hurdle when uploading the clients product catolog in that to make their pricing structure work with CRM 2011 I have to upload a lot of discount lists (over 850) each containing one discount item.

The problem that this is just going to take too long to manually input so I'm looking to import them using the import wizard and the templates like I've read you can do with price lists.

I've imported all the discount lists without any problems but I'm unable to import the items. There is a template which looks correct called 'Discount' but there is no column for the name of the discount list I want the item to appear under. I tried adding this and mapping it to 'Discount (Primary Key) but this doesn't work. Even when I upload the file without the additional column it still fails for each record stating "A validation error occurred. A decimal value provided is outside of the allowed values."

Is there any way I can bulk import the discount list items like I can with price lists or do I have to plug them all in manually?

    Patrick,

I am not sure if you will be able to do this easily, have you tried using the Price List Item template?

I can upload price list items without any problem so I tried modifying the template to accommodate the additional fields for discount list items but no joy.

Patrick, can you try downloading the discount list template from "Settings -> Data Management -> Templates for Data Import" section?

Thanls Gus, I tried this but there isn't a column to specify which discount list to add the item to. I added my own column for this and mapped it to "Discount (Primary Key)" but it keeps failing with the error - "A validation error occurred. A decimal value provided is outside of the allowed values".

Hmmm...we are getting closer actually...does it say which line is it failing on?

I wonder if one of the rows on the template has wrong data...like "N/A" instead of a number or something like that.

    I figured it out!

There were two issues. The first one was the beginning value which I had set to 0.00001, if I set it to 1 then the import was successful. This isn't a problem for me as the company only deal in whole items, not fractions of items.

The second thing I did was add a new column to the Discount import template called "Discount List" but rather than map this to "Discount (Primary Key)" I mapped it to "Discount Type (Lookup)" then set the lookup reference to "Discount List (Primary Key; Name".

Thank you for your suggestions Gus. Looks like the underlying issue was that the Discounts template was a bit misleading combined a lack of knowledge of the import wizard on my part.

    All the best.

    Hi Patrick,

Your solution is right, but if you add a new column to the Discount import template called "Discount Type" you don't need to do a manual mapping.

    Best,
