Bonjour!

I have GP2010 installed on a termianl server and it's working fine I tried to installed it on a new PC but I can not login with any users except the SA user?

Do you have an idea why?

Regardsd, Joel :)

Have the other users been granted access via the 'User Access' settings in the System Setup area?

    Joel,

Are you getting an error message when you try to log in as another user?  The exact wording of the error message and when it occurs would help.

My initial guess is that you have not named your ODBC with the same name as the ODCB on the Terminal Server.  Can you try creating a new ODBC exactly how it is on the Terminal Server and see if that makes a difference?

    Hi Joel,

Please check permissions on the GP 2010 Program Files folder. The Users should have Modify permissions.

    Thanks,

Look at the ODBC.  The ODBC MUST have the same name as the ODBC on the Terminal Server.  All ODBCs accessing GP must have the same name across an installation.

Thanks It wasn't name the same I changed it and it still doesn't work. The error message that I get is "The login failed. Attempt to log in again or caont you SA"

In my terminal it's working since 3 years, I just wanted to install it on another PC.

Joel, I normally see this when the server name in the ODBC connection changes between installs. Take a look at the ODBC connections on both the Terminal Server and new PC. If the database servers have different names then only the sa user can log in. What is happening is GP2010 uses the ODBC connection string to encrypt all users passwords except sa before giving them to SQL to encrypt. The short answer is to reset the user passwords. For more detail on what is happening and why check out this post which will lead you to others that go into a great bit of detail.

John, Thanks I will check further. That's exactly right I think,  one(Terminal) use the instance name and the other use server+port.

    Joel,

Here is a 'reverse' test you can perform to see if this is really the issue: on the new computer, log into GP as SA and create a brand new GP user.  Now try to log into GP as that user on the new computer.  I would expect this to work.  Try to log in as the same user on the Terminal Server, if our suspicions are right, this will not work.

Once the ODBC is setup exactly the same in both places, you should be able to log in on both with the same GP users interchangeably.

Thanks Victoria, I really appreciate all your responses, and the test worked. All that started because I wanted to install the Report Manager on a web server, I don't want all applications on the same server(SQL, GP, ReportManager), security wise and performance it's better to spread the services. But with Report Manager installed it wasn't working, so our provider asked me to install GP, he thought that it was because GP wasn't installed, that's why it wasn't working. After installing GP it still wasn't working. So now I will be able to make it work.

    Regards, Joel :)
