why do void not post though to the GL

I understand that by design voids are transaction post.  But because of that they never post through to the GL.  So why then is there an option in the posting setup for Voids to post through to the GL?  I have a client that are consistently voiding documents.  (i don't know why) but it is causing an issue because only limited users can post a GL batch.   Is there any work around?

    Hi,

    Using GP 2015 R2, I just changed the Posting settings for the Void Historical Transactions window in PM to post through general ledger. I voided a document, and sure enough, it posted a general ledger transaction. It surprised me a little bit, so I tried voiding an Open transaction (after changing the Posting settings) and it posted the GL entry as well.

    Hi Brenda,

    As you said, "Post through General Ledger Files" works with batch posting, not transaction posting. But, it will also works for Void Transaction as well. Post through will not consider the batch for voiding transactions. Because, voiding is not related to Batch.

    Please mark "Post through General Ledger Files" for voided transaction in posting setup window and void any transaction to check whether GL posted or not.

    The posting is setup to post through to the GL on a void document but in practice is does not work because there is no batching in the voiding process.   The posting setup to post through only works on batches.  It does not work on transactional posting.

    Our payables and receivables supervisor void documents for their respective departments and the transactions post through to the GL.

    Within 'posting' you can check the series and the respective origin and how you want a posting transaction to behave.

    Post to the GL or post through to the GL.

    I don't think there is a solution to this one - I am pretty sure that is just how it is.

    Have you checked your setup for posting through at the transaction level?
