How do I make the default view for the Calendar "Month" rather than "Day"? And how do I make it so that everyone can automatically see everyone else's appointments on the Calendar?

If you use the default calendar then it gives only view mode only in appointment & service but you want to edit the calendar then you must go with an addon. I would suggest you one calendar which has all type of calendar functionality so you can use this everywhere and it gives custom entity.
Dynamics Calendar 365 gives editing rights for your Calendar activities in Dynamics CRM as opposed to the native calendar tool. This calendar makes checking things off your task list easy!
Unfortunately not. The Calendar view is a personal calendar only. You can either use one of the appointment views (it's a simple list and not laid out in a calendar format) or you can use the Service Calendar which shows appointments in a Gantt chart layout.
We're a rather small company without many appointments...is there a way to make appointments to default to be visible to everyone on their calendars, without the add-ons? I know there is a way to share appointments, but I don't know how to make them visible on everyone's calendars.
You can't change the default calendar view. And the calendar is only designed to be a personal calendar not a team or company calendar. If you imagine a team calendar with a team of four people having four appointments per day it could look cluttered. Now imagine the calendar for a sales force of 100 sales people who have 10 appointments per day.
If you really need a group calendar, here is an add-on you might want to check out:
