I'm looking for a way to forecast sales using fields in the opportunity form and reports. I have a field for "First Order Date," and I'd like to have additional fields that can be used to generate a sales report. For example, if I have a project with a first order date of 3/1/2014 for 1,000 units, and I know there will be 500 more units on 6/1/2014 and again on 9/1/2014, how can I capture that within the opportunity form so that I may run a report to forecast sales for June or September from all opportunities?

I have the same question (0)How about create them as multiple opportunities and link them to a primary opportunity? For this, you need create a self-reference with the opportunity entity. The estimated revenue and the total no. of units can be totaled up and displayed on the parent opportunity record. But note that you have already closed the parent opportunity, you cannot update it with the new revenue and unit numbers, unless you re-open it. For this, you can develop a report and have your report do all the calculations.
Good amount of design decisions to be made. I have just provided you with an option for your consideration.
