Custom Entity Merge Tool?

Hi,

Looks like record merging is only available for account, contact and lead entities. It is not available for any other entity including custom entities.

So, I looked around to see if there are any paid tools with functionality to merge entities like new_customentity and found NONE. Neither PowerObjects nor KingswaySoft provide this ability.

Please let me know if such a free/paid tool exists.

Hello,

Yes you are correct, only account, contact, lead, incident entities have merge option, so you could write a .net utility using SDK, where you can setup your logic to merge based on some set of criteria to update master record, and then can update master related entity records as well.

another option is to use dialogs like this: community.dynamics.com/.../merging-custom-entity-records-with-dynamics-crm-2011-dialog

But keep in mind dialog will be depreciated in major release for Dynamics 365

Hi Anatoliy,

Unfortunately, I am unaware of any tool that will provide you with that type of functionality, and it will be a lot of work to replicate the functionality of the merge window. I don't know if Microsoft is ever going to make this work for other entities, or there will be another third party tool.

If your requirements are not too complex, you can probably select the two records that you want to merge, and create some sort of merge function using an action that will do this process.

Hi Anatoliy,

I'm also looking for a tool that's able to merge custom entities (without the use of a Dialog) and was wondering how you experienced the data-8 tool? Did you go for the trial and how were the results?

Hi Martijn and Peragin,

I was not able to test out data8's duplicate merge tool due to another project's precedence.

Another company that offers such a product can be found here: www.dqglobal.com/.../perfect-merge-software-dq-pam.

Both are pretty neat and offer unique functionalities.

Trial both of them and let us know what you thought.
