Unable to Access Smart Lists (GP 10)

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

 Summary of problem:

 - User "POWER USER" role can access smart lists (ie click on magnifying glass in Inquiries, etc)
 - All other users roles (at least all the ones I tested) unable to click on magnifying glass.  User gets message "you don't have security privileges to open this window" (in all modules).

 Obivious Security Roles / Tasks are checked, including a role to access SmartLists.

 Thank you in advance for suggestions.

    RE: Unable to Access Smart Lists (GP 10)

    Dima,

    To tell if your SmartList is based on a SQL table or view, open it in SmartList and look at what's on the left side. You can select each object there and click on the edit button to see more detail.

    If users with the POWERUSER security role cannot see the SmartList, but SA can, it's often an issue with SQL permissions. You will need to determine all the SQL objects used by the SmartList and make sure to give DYNGRP permissions to those SQL objects directly in SQL.

    You might find these blog posts helpful to get more details and information about SmartList and SmartList security:

    Thank you Victoria. I am a very new to GP. So, I will try my best

    • Is this SmartList based on a SQL table/view? I am not sure. How do i know? :-)
    • Can a user who has the POWERUSER security role in GP run it and see data? The users are not able to see the report when i grant them Poweruser rights.
    • Can 'sa' run it and see data? SA can run this report without problem so as few older employees, but not new people.

I have one SmartList report that i would like to give access to other users, but none of the the users are able to view result. They are able to run it without any issues, but the result is blank page. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

    HI,

    SElect the the DEFAULT USER task ID.(FYI:We are also using mekorma and smart list builder)

    If you are using smartlist Builder than change to SMARTLIST OBJECT in Type and Series.

    YOu will get list of Favourites of smart list tick all of them to access granted on them.

    Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Regards

    Amit

    Hello,

    A box is probably not checked in the security task for the default user. Look at

    Product = Microsoft Dynamics GP

    Type = Windows

    Series = System

    Not all boxes need to be checked but some are key.

    Under SmartList>Windows>Sstem I have the columns checked.

    Under Microsoft Dynamics GP>Files>System I marked the box for Navigation Bar Buttons only.

    I tend to leave the default settings as is and create a new task with the options I desire. In this fashion if it is not correct I can revert back to the default.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Burbank

    Thank you for your support. However, it did not work for me. In fact it was alrealdy selected. To make sure I unmrked and marked again. but still it did not work. Any other things to be checked ???

    Please note that in spite of this warning message smartlist works for me. But I want to avoid this warning message. I have no clue what makes this warning message appear.

    Re: Unable to Access Smart Lists (GP 10)

    Navigate to Microsoft Dynamics GP>Tools>Setup>System>Security Tasks

    Select the task ID - Default User

    Product = SmartList

    Type = Files

    Series = System

    Mark all

    This should solve your problem as long as each user is given access to at least one role in the User Security Setup window. This setup allows SL access based on the security 'role' and access does not have to be granted/restricted individually.

     :-)

    WelI Dear Professionals,

    I also got into a similar but bit deffrent problem on GP 10.0 with SP3. It is brand new installation.

    I am getting the same error message when clicked on smartlist " You don't have security privileges to open this window. Contact your system administrator for assistance." but when I click OK on the same message screen smart list opens and works fine.

    I tried with default user and order processor role assigned to a new user. But always get this error message.

    Can anyone help on this please.

    Hi there

    Sounds like you need to make sure security access to the smartlists has been granted.

    If you are getting "Not Privileged" errors look at the blog articles below for how to identify and fix the issue.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/developingfordynamicsgp/archive/2008/11/10/microsoft-dynamics-gp-application-level-security-series.aspx

    Especially have a look at build 10 (or later) of the Support Debugging Tool as this has built in security profiler and security information windows that make security settings simple for v10.0.
