Relation between DimensionAttribute and DimAttributeOMDepartment

Hi,

I am a BI developer extracting from D365, and I am struggling to find a useful relation between dimensions in DimAttributeOMDepartment and DimensionAttribute. The reason is that I only want records for DimAttributeOMDepartment, that are active, and as far as I can see, this is stored in DimensionAttribute (ACTIVEFROM, ACTIVETO). Does anyone have some info on this ?

BR, Tom

You can't say whether DimAttributeOMDepartment as such is active or not - it may be used by several dimension attributes and it may be active in some and inactive in others.

DimensionAttribute doesn't have ActiveFrom and ActiveTo fields; as far as I know - it's a property of individual values (DimensionAttributeValue table), not of attributes.

Yes you are right, my bad. My problem is, that in DimAttributeOMDepartment, I can see all the dimensions I need. When looking at then through the application, there is in the form, an ACTIVEFROM and ACTIVETO. This I think is stored in DimensionAttributeValue. However, I can only find a few of the dimensonvalues in this table, thats why I am confused.

DimAttributeOMDepartment view returns all departments that can potentially be used in financial dimensions.

DimensionAttributeValue contains those that are actually used in dimensions.

When you pick a department as a dimension and there is no such value in DimensionAttributeValue (for the given attribute; don't forget that you may have more than one dimension attribute for departments), the system will create a new record in DimensionAttributeValue.

    Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. Am I understanding you correctly, that if there are no transactions, using the dimensionvalues, they will not appear  in DimensionAttributeValues and when there is a transaction, it will be created ? BR Tom

Yes, although I would say "dimensions" and not "transactions" (financial dimensions are used also in tables that aren't considered transactions). Before you select the first dimension value, the DimensionAttributeValue doesn't contain any record (for the given attribute).
