How to make a perfect copy of a Production Server to move to a Virtual server?

Hi Gang

Not sure if this is in the right spot or not, but here goes. Have a Production server that we want to put in a virtual environment. Lots of customizing was done to it. Need to make a perfect copy. Any suggestions. Very limited on Virtual Envirnoment knowledge. Thanks. Rich

We use VM Ware and then create a P2V(Physical to Virtual) image of the original server. You turn off the physical box and fire up the image and no one has any idea anything has changed except you.

Which version of VM Ware are you running? I think that VM Ware has a free version and a purchase version and a few other versions as well. I know that the company that we bought our servers from is using Hyper V.
