Do we need to use same publisher which gone to Live?

Hi

We used one publisher to phase 0 of our project and went live few months back. Now we base lined phase 0 managed solution as our new development and created unmanaged solution for phase 1 and created new Publisher for phase 1 which has same prefix and option set value.

New development environment

                       Phase 0 Managed solution

                       Phase 1 Unmanaged solution and new publisher with same prefix since we can't select phase 0 publisher due to managed.

 is it correct or do we need to use same publisher?. Does it matter if we use same prefix , only name is changed;

Could some one please answer the above.

    Hi,

    If you want to use the same publisher, you'll need to create a new org, and create the publisher BEFORE you import a solution with that publisher. That's the only way you'll be able to select it for a new solution.

    As far as having two different publishers with the same prefix, as long as you're in change of both then it shouldn't be a problem. The prefix is really designed to prevent two publishers from creating entities and fields with the same name. Since you're in control of that, it's not much of an issue. I'm not positive, but it may even import to your Live environment as the original publisher if all the settings on the publisher are the same.

    Thanks Aiden for your reply. But do we need to use same publisher for all phases? is it required?  If I create new publisher with same prefix but names are different ? does really matter if we use different publishers.

    As far as I know, it doesn't matter. We've ended up in that situation a few times and, although it bugs me because it's not tidy, it's never caused a problem.
