Upgrading to GP10 - User Acceptance Testing

Hi all,

We are currently going through the process of upgrading to Great Plains v10 from v8.  I would like to carry out some user acceptance testing prior to go live early next year.

Rather than re-inventing the wheel are there any standard UAT scripts available for the various GP modules?

Any assistance would be much appreciated

 Thanks, J

    J,

There are no standard scripts as UAT will great depend on your company's processes. However, in the past I have created UAT scripts for the major processes: Order to Cash, Procurement to Disbursement, and Inventory Control. If your company has any other processes that will be automated (for example Manufacturing, Service Calls, etc.) you must plan for those too.

    Hi JGC,

We will shortly be doing a similar exercise, upgrading from V8 to V10, I would be interested in any feedback you had, any particular difficulties and also if you found a suitable UAT script?

    Tks, Clodagh

    Hi all,

We've just completed 3 V8 to V10 upgrades. Complicated enough with eConnect, Business Portal, and other bespoke developments to contend with. However, you always must do a test upgrade so you know what you are heading into for the live.

UAT is an important part of the process. However - in standard GP modules, you shouldn't expect there to be issues. In fact the contrary. Where you might get issues is with non core modules that depend on other technologies like MOSS etc. UAT really has to be done with these, and in my opinion, there is no substitute for a live user doing the testing (as opposed to scripts). Obviously companies whose GP install is mission critical may need some scripted tests before they release the enviornment to live test users, but these scripts will be very individual.

Again, unless we are talking about bespoke developments, UAT should be straigforward and should not throw up any issues.
