Making a New Company Based on a Test Company

Over the last month I have been working and learning in a test company in GP. I've set it up to be exactly like what I want my actual company to be. When i get to the point where I want to start my new company and set it up, what is the best way to transfer all of the information from the test over to the real company? For instance the categories, accounts, vendors, customers, and etc. Also, can you move transactions/historical amounts as well?  You guys are always so helpful. I learn something new everyday i get on here!

Thanks!

    Hi Kimberly,

I would list the following options to import.

    1.Macro (my all time favourite)

    2.eConnect

    3.Integration Manager

    Kimberly,

Here is a link to a KB article, which covers what tables contain what setup information, and how to use SQL to copy this information from one company to another.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/872709

As far as transaction information is concerned, I think Babu is on point. You would want to use SmartList to export the detail from one company and then Integration Manager, eConnect or Macros to get it into the destination company.

    Kimberly,

Before you start please confirm all the information available in test company are required in live company. If so, just take a backup of test company database and restore it on the live company database. Follow the below link for the same support.microsoft.com/.../871973

If you need only few information like master, transactions, etc., follow the Harry & Babu suggestion.

Note: Before doing anything on the live take a backup of system & company database.

    Hope this helps!!!

There is a tool called Copy company info , its part of the professional services tools library (PSTL) , which you can get your partner to down load from partnersource (its free for version 10 and above of GP), you can use this to create a new company based on an existing one and it gives you the option to copy across the setup info , you can choose whether to copy across debtors , creditors , chart of accounts etc.

    Hi Kimberly,

At this point of the story, I'm just wondering why you want to copy all that stuff over to a new company... make your actual company your live company :-). You can rename the company if it's not what you wanted initially during the setup.

I second Harry for the KB article, which explains in detail how to create a TEST company from another LIVE company... the same process could be used in the other direction as well :-).

Good luck with your project and Welcome to the great world of Dynamics GP.
