Status Reason of Lead Customization Error

Hi all.  This is my first post on here.  I'm a sysadmin role on our CRM 4.0 installation.  I've attempted to customize the pick list "statuscode" (Status Reason of Lead) on the lead entity for my users.  It lets me add the status code and label, then when I try to save it errors out with "An Error Has Occurred.  ... If it continues contact your CRM Administrator".  That's me.  Okay so now what.  It doesn't give me any error codes to look up, or any other information about the error.

In checking the forum it looks like others have successfully customized this entity.  Any ideas?  I'm open to suggestions to try before I do a support ticket to Microsoft.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Donna,

Please turn on dev errors in your web.config file.  This will enable crm to display a better error message.

    Thanks!

    Hello Donna,

I have just had the same problem as you, though have managed to find a workaround.

What I did was create a dummy picklist item, then created my picklist item. When this was done, I deleted the dummy status and saved. No errors appeared.

Looking further into this, I discovered that the Open status did not detect a custom picklist item in the Disqualified status, and therefore attempted to give my new item the same status code.

You will need to go through each picklist (Open, Qualified, and Disqualified), and note the Value assigned to each custom item. Then try adding a new picklist item. If the Value is already assigned to another item, type in a dummy label, then click on OK. Keep doing this until you get an unused Value. Create your new item, then delete any dummy items. Take a deep breath, then click on Save.

    Good luck,

    Colin
