Documentation on Data for Smart Lists

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

I would like to build smart lists for the following:

1) Aged Trial Balance Receivable

2) Aged Trial Balance Payable

3) Balance Sheet

4) Income Statement

Is there any documentation on this kind of data? What is the best way to know the appropriate tables to pull from?

Thanks

Thanks Everyone for your feedback. The following URL is what I will use.  While I am still new to GP and gaining experience, and I am sure the Management Reporter tool would save me time, other sites suggest this tool is going away. Plus, for this particular set of projects/reports, I would like to understand the data sources more closely.

Rod, just a quick comment on Management Reporter

This is a purpose built tool that knows how to read data from the GL, how to design reports for Income and Balance Sheet presentation.  This report tool has been the tool for Financial reporting with all of our clients since it was released.

As to finding the data from other applications, it can be done, you need to know what you want and then you can determine what tables they are located in.

Using the tools that already know where to find the data - like Management Reporter - seems like a really good way to go.  I have been working in the system for many years and I don't think I want to tackle the Income Statement without a map to the data - better than I have.

Others will disagree and suggest other options, but this is my personal point of view.

    Thanks Bill,

I appreciate the feedback. In reality, I would like to know this information outside of Management Reporter.

We are using GP 2016 and should be upgrading to 2016 soon. We will not use Management Reporter but have SSRS, Smartlists, and even SAP-Business Objects. We also have reviewed Power BI.  Is there a way I can find this same information using one of these other (newer) tools?

Rod, Management Reporter is a tool that was released a number of years back to replace FRx.  Management Reporter is a Financial module only reporting tool.

If you are familiar with FRx then you will be on your way with Management Report - once you have it installed and configured - there is much more to the installation and configuration of MR vs FRx.

Starting question should be - what version of Microsoft Dynamics GP are you running?

    Thanks for your help,

I do not see "Sales for Customers." Is that the exact name? I see "Customers" and "Sales Transactions" only.

Do you know which tables/views to get started that Management Reporter would reference?

RE: Documentation on Data for Smart Lists

    Hi Rod,

The first 2 reports are based on temp tables that are built as the report is generated. You could base them on the Smartlist under Sales for Customers, and add the aging period columns. You will need to do the same for Payables. Keep in mind to eliminate voided items. Compare the results with the report writer reports to ensure they balance.

The last 2 reports are best achieved using Management Reporter.
