How can I perform SKU transfers for ONLY portion of on-hand quantities?

How can I perform SKU transfers for ONLY portion of on-hand quantities?

For example, we have 4 qty of product A with SKU AAA-AAA-1 on hand.
We need to transfer 2 qty of this product out of a warehouse, and transfer them into another warehouse under SKU AAA-AAA-2.

We don't want to use 'Inventory Adjustment' because we would lose cost layers.

'Transfer' does not let you change SKUs.

We've never used 'Item Number Modifier', but it sounds like it only change the SKU to another with all the history with it, which we don't want to do.  We still have remaining on-hand quantities in the original SKU along with all the history behind it, which should not be under the new SKU.  ONLY some quantities will be transferred to the new SKU.

Does anyone know a third-party solution that does this, or a work-around with GP itself.

We are an online retail company with multiple warehouses.
We run GP2010 (with POP, SOP and INV, but no Manufacturing)

Thank you!

I would contact Corporate Rennaisance Group in Ottawa, Canada at 613-232-4295. They will be able to help you. They have several products that make all kinds of similar changes to GP SQL tables. They can assist you with this functionality.

Here's another option - look at the Assembly Transaction in inventory.  You can setup a bill of material for AAA-AAA-2 that has one component - AAA-AAA-1.  Process the Assembly Transaction and your -1 will be converted to a -2, consuming the -1 and placing the -2 in stock.  Then, transfer the -2 to the desired warehouse.
