Refresh from CRM button in Excel

Hello,

I have created a spreadsheet which includes one workbook which is a dynamic workbook exported from CRM. I have selected 'refresh on opening' option but the file does not refresh automatically after it s opened. I need to manualy click on Refresh from CRM to get data updated after I open file evry time. Any ideas how I can set it all up so my workbook refreshes itself every time the file is opened?

Thanks,

Karolina

I followed below steps in my  CRM dynamic worksheet  and it refreshes the data without any issue and it shows current data .

Automatically refresh data when a workbook is opened

You can refresh an external data range automatically when you open the workbook. Optionally, you can save the workbook without saving the external data so that the file size of the workbook is reduced.

    1. Click a cell in the external data range.

    2. On the Data tab, in the Connections group, click the arrow next to Refresh, and then click Connection Properties.

      Excel Ribbon Image

    3. Click the Usage tab.

    4. Under Refresh control, select the Refresh data when opening the file check box.

Thanks Chitra but I had that box checked already.

The workbook never refreshes when I open it first time in a day. I need to click on Refresh from CRM. After that it is on for a day or two. It looks like I am not being automatically signed on to receive data and clicking 'refresh from CRM' does some form of authentication...

We are using Odata source with organization login in power BI excel and it works  without any issue. Rather using using dynamic worksheet you could try with gettign data using Odata source to resolve this isuse. YOu can do lot with odata and power BI .

Here is the post that provides steps t connect crm using Odata

I will try the method you proposed today.

Just for information this is the error I am getting in excel - it disappears after I click 'refresh from crm'...

    Hi Chitra,

I followed the instructions and made the power query work. Unfortunately I am struggling with displaying open opportunities in excel. None of the tables shown on the righ hand side under crm connection include open opportunities... What s best way to display all open opportunities in a workbook?

Also If I share this spread sheet with other users do they have to have power query installed if they want to refresh data from crm?

    Thanks,

    Karolina

    Hi Karolina,

    You need this:

Note: We highly recommend that you have the CRM Outlook Client installed and properly configured. While there are workarounds including leveraging OData and ODBC, we do not recommend going down this path.

After saving the connection  did you get any error message ? Once you save the connection it will display all the entities in the righthand side from there you can choose opportunities.

I got all entities on the right. Just don't know how to manipulate them to get me a SIMPLE view of open opportunities...

    Deepesh,

This is what I have done previously and it work. The issue is that every time users need to press 'Refresh from CRM' button to be able to see data. Even with CRM for outlook installed the workbook is not refreshed on opening. We must click the refresh to 'sign in to crm' and then we get the data...
