Re-Attach Databases

Unfortunately removed and old SQL Server that is no longer supported.

Found out it is used to print out History from a program called IMUS.

Any suggestion of the steps needed to take so we have access to IMUS again and print out the Reports.

I have the 2005 SQL Server CD's and thought I will need to reinstall them.

We have a backup, but no one knows how to restore.

We still have the ODBC Files, for Imus or SQL 2005, and have the Data of IMUS.

I do know SQL SERVER 2005 is no longer supported by MICROSOFT.

Wanted to know if anyone had suggestions to help me with this challenge???!!!!

Thank You,

Mark S. Lindgren

  • RE: Re-Attach Databases

    Hello Mark,

If you have the backup file (.bak) for the database, you can restore it using the steps mentioned in this webpage:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../restore-a-database-backup-using-ssms

If you only have the MDF and LDF files for the database, you can use them to restore using these steps:

1.First Put the .mdf and .ldf file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.#\MSSQL\DATA\ folder

2.Then go to sql software , Right-click “Databases” and click the “Attach” option to open the Attach Databases dialog box

3.Click the “Add” button to open and Locate Database Files From C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.#\MSSQL\DATA\folder

4.Click the "OK" button. SQL Server Management Studio loads the database from the .MDF file.

All of this information is found online.

As for IMUS, we don't do any support or troubleshooting of that application, but maybe some others on this forum may be able to give you some info on that.

    Thanks,
