Login errors after every modified form change

I'm on GP2010.  Every time I modify a form and try to log in to a company as a user, I'll get a get/change error.  I have my Dynamics.set and DynUtil.set pointing to the GP server for the form dictionaries. I've gone into Alternate/Modified Forms and Report and made sure the modified forms were assigned to the ID (which is defaultuser).  I made sure that the user had  defaultuser assigned in security, but I still get the get/change error when I log in.  I even went back and assigned the GP forms back to the defaultuser instead of the modified forms and I still get the error.  If I delete the user and recreate it, then everything works fine.

1. Why is this happening?

2. How do I fix it?

It sounds like a damaged forms dictionary. Have you tried recreating the forms dictionary? Export all your customizations to a package file, rename the current forms dictionary, then reimport your customizations.

It doesn't look like it was the modified forms after all. The forms were more of a coincidence and not the cause. I have three companies.  Training, Dev and Production.  Everyone has access to Training, a few people have access to Dev and only a couple of people have access to the Production.  So we make our changes to the Development and then I copy that database to Training.  I run that little script from MS to update the companies of the restored databases after that.  The problem we found was that each db in SQL has security and basically I was copying the access of the limited db to the Training db for everyone. Everyone who didn't have access to Dev was removed from Training.

Restoring database A to B, but A and B have different securities. What would be the solution for that?

I haven't tried the following yet, but plan on it today.   I'm going to give all company access' to everyone, but limit their access through security.  I'm thinking the screen security is in the Dynamics table, not in the company table and I'm hoping they will retain access when I do a restore from one db to another.

    Any thoughts?

Are these company databases on separate environments or are we talking the same server.

    RE: Get/Change Error

Same server. Originally I set it up for one company per SQL instance, but we switched to one instance with three companies.  I can see how having the same company in separate instances would have avoided my problem.  Then I could regulate who has access to which instance using ODBC.

What I did was go through and give access to everyone to all of the companies.  I just didn't set any security for the ones I didn't want them having access to, so they get a bunch of blank screens when they log in.  It did fix my problem; however, if there is a better way of doing it, I'm all ears.

An option would be to install Support Debugging Tool and export all the security settings, then import them again once you restore the databases.

Cool.  I have the tool.  I didn't know I could do that.

    Thanks
