Fixed Assets, -negative book cost

Greetings and Happy New Year

Our company recently went Live in D365 , our Fixed Assets was previously managed through FAS.

We have several (negative) book cost assets, D365 is not computing depreciation on those assets, what action or measures do we need to take to have D365 calculate depreciation on a monthly basis?

Many Thanks in advance,

Angie Patton

    Hi Angie Patton,

To my knowledge the calculation of depreciation for fixed assets that already have a $0 or negative book value is not supported.

You might need a system modification or find a workaround.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi General Patton,

When negative fixed asset is depreciated, D365 FO don't calculate a depreciation proposal. I reported this issue long time back to Microsoft so as ludwig mention you need to do system modification or post this idea/feedback on experience.dynamics.com/.../

    hi patton

Maybe you need do extension to meet your requirements or submit a ticket to MS.

    thanks.

RE: Fixed Assets, -negative book cost

    Happy New Year
I think that we are all in agreement, Negative Fixed Assets do exist

Yes - we are all aware that majority of our Fixed Assets have a Dr balance, however there are rare occasions where an organization will have a need to record and track, and amortize a Cr "Negative" Fixed Asset.

When recording a business acquisition at FMV there will be instances where the acquiring entity needs to record a Intangible / Liability and amortize over a determined term.

As robust as the products that Microsoft has to offer, this very simple code update to allow Cr balance assets to properly amortize would answer the needs of all clients.

JD Edwards allows for depreciation of Cr "Negative" Fixed Assets , I am sure that Microsoft can as well.

    Hello General Patton,

The best way forward here is in my opinion if you submit this on the ideas site that you can access by hitting the ideas button on top of this site.

MS checks things and provided that this issue gets sufficient what they call votes, MS will fix it.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thank you Ludwig

I have  taken your advise and created a submitted an idea on the noted site, if you would hop over and offer my idea a vote.

You seem rather knowledgeable of D365, are you aware of a Fixed Asset to General Ledger Reconciliation report?

    Good Day

    Patton
