Company name in upper right of SL 2011 becomes incorrect.

Posted on by 4,757

Hello all,

If a user opens different companies during the course of his work, the 2011 company name feature saves a shortcut to the companies they have selected. So far so good.

If they now switch databases, say to a test copy of their database, those shortcuts are still there and if they click on them, it will open the comapny and show them they are in the previous database, even though database as listed on the status bar below shows them in test.

This is very confusing to the users and I'm afraid they are going to enter test transactions into the live database one day.

Does anyone know of a hotfix or other remedy for this? Right now I am just having them click on "More comapnies..." below the shortcut drop down to select the company they want.

Also, I just realized after reading some posts that mentions version numbers that we are on SP1 not FP1. So perhaps I do not have the bug fixed as I had thought.

Now that you mention cache ... The one thing I have in common in the two places is Citrix. I wonder if the Citrix cache is effecting us. Yes it happens to all users. I'm going to look into that and get back here with what I learn.

    Hi Butch,

I can't seem to make this happen in my demo databases for FP1.  I sign into one system database and switch companies a few times.  Then log out and log into a separate system database.  The list of companies in the upper right hand corner is correct.  I also tried doing some data entry prior to switching companies and then switching databases and the company list always shows companies that correspond to the system database that I am logged into.

I would like to submit a bug about this issue.  Do you have any other clues as to what I can test to recreate this issue?

Does it happen for all users at those company sites?  Have you tried to clear the cache to see if it happens again?

    Thanks.

Thanks for the response Carolyn ...

Not quite as you describe .... after switching databases, the Status bar shows them in the newly opened database, but the company shortcuts in the upper right will open companies in the previously opened database. The status bar still shows the db as being in the newly opened one.

This is reproducable at two different customers I have and in my test environment. All sites are on FP1.

    Hi Butch,

I assume you are saying that the wrong application database name appears on the lower edge of the UI after switching databases.  Is that the issue you are reporting?  If so, it has been identified in bug number 24072.  This issue has been corrected in SL 2011 FP1.  Another workaround is to  Clear the Most Recently Used Company Cache in - Options / navigation Menu tab.

Let me know if I have identified the issue correctly or if you have additional questions.
