How to transfer data from Opportunity to related Quote

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

So, obviously Opportunities and Quotes are standard entities in CRM, and Quotes can be created from Opportunities.

Our Quotes and Opportunities share several fields in common.  When a Quote is created from an Opportunity, I would like the data from the Opportunities fields to be transferred to the fields of the created Quote.

Currently, we have a workflow for doing this exact thing, but for some reason it is not doing anything at all.

I was wondering if there was any standard way of doing this, or if there is any reason this cannot be done?

Thanks

I don't know what changed over six days, but I tried it again in the same browser, and it worked perfectly! Thank you so much for the help!

    Hi Philip,

The steps you have mentioned are the correct steps to create the mapping. You sure that the mapping is not added? It is possible a browser issues. Can you follow the same steps again on a different browser. Also, ensure that the data type of the both field is same?

    Hope this helps.

I tried the Customize Your System option, but that is where I encountered the issue I mentioned above. I thought the Default Solution was technically a managed one.  Either way, it did not work for some reason. I will see if creating a new unmanaged solution will work.

Yes you can't modify a managed solution. You could use either the Customise Your System option or create a new unmanaged solution and add the new mappings to that new solution.

This solution makes sense, and seems like it should work.  However, when I went to try it in our CRM system, it did not quite work. I got to the part where I clicked "New" to create a new mapping, and a window popped up with two lists of fields side-by-side; the left field was the opportunity and the right was the quote. I clicked on the field I wanted from the Opportunity field list, and then clicked on the field I wanted the data to go to from the Quote field list.  I then clicked "OK", and the pop-up closed.  At this point, I thought I would see the mapping in the list of mappings, but it was not there.

I am lost as to why this is not working.  Could it be because the Default Solution is a managed solution?

You can do this be editing the Mappings on the 1:N relationship 'Opportunity to Quote'

You just need to add the additional fields you want to copy from the Opportunity into the quote in the Field Mapping section of the opportunity Quotes relationship - no workflow is required.

To do this open up the Customisation or a solution file and select opportunity_quotes from the N:1 Relationships of the Quote Entity

And then select Mapping add new and individually add the additional mappings you wish to create.
