Problems Upgrading Third Party Module (8 to 10)

Posted on by 725

Hi,

I have been struggling with upgrade a third party dictionary for a few days.  i have followed the instructions in KB910527:  How to upgrade a Dexterity-based application in Microsoft Dynamics GP by using the Dexterity Source Code Control Service with what seemed like success.

I was able to transfer the modified RM_Customer_Maintenance and all the custom forms from the original dictionary and resolve all the resulting errors.  When I install the chunk, GP adds the new code but when I try to give permissions to the alternate form, it does not appear as an option.

So, I decided to see if i could add the alternate form to the Navigation Pane.  I was able to find the form and add it but when i opened it via the shortcut, it had no functionality at all.  It pops up as a completely dead form.  It appears none of the ode was loaded with it.

All the custom forms work just fine, only the modified RM_Customer_Maintenance will not work.

Hoping someone can help,

Catherine

    Hi Cathy,

I'm not a Dexterity developper (but still a developper too :-) ), and from what I understand, your modified form is stored in a different dictionnary then the original form... your GP security will not see it, unless you specify from where to get it...

    Richard,

Sorry, I left out those keys points.

It is an alternate version of the RM_Customer_Maintenance  contained in a third party dictionary.  If I open it in dexterity, I see my code.  However, when I load the chunk, only my code works and the rest of the form's functionality does not do anything.

    Thanks again,

    Catherine

Catherine, is the RM_Customer_Maintenance an alternate version of this form and contained in the 3rd party dictionary and not in Dynamics GP? If you open the form in Dexterity do you see your code? When you say the form does nothing I assume you mean all the normal fields function it is just your code that does nothing?

    Hi Richard,

I just reread your answer and I think you misunderstood.  I am using Dexterity, not modifier!

    Thanks,

    Catherine

Can you export your previous forms modifications? It sounds like your DYNAMICS.VBA file has no code in it. If you can export it, try importing it into your new client. The import will recreate the DYNAMICS.VBA file and hopefully pull in your code. Depending on how exotic the code is, you may need to adjust the code manually after the import.
