Duration of upgrade from v8.2 to v9.0

Hi all,

I am sure that some of you have already updated Dynamics 365 production instances from v8.2 to v9.0.

I am trying to find information about the duration of the update, and how long the instance will be unavailable. In this case, the production instance database is about 100gb in size.

Can somebody provide feedback on their experience regarding the duration/availability of the instance duringthe automatic update by Microsoft?

Thank you

-Luca

downtime will surly be there and app will not be accessible.

I would suggest contact MS beforehand and get them engaged in this talk to know more.

    Pranav

    Hi Pranav,

thank you for your suggestion, I will probably do this.

Do you have any idea of the order of magnitude? I have no idea if we are even talking 15 minutes or 5 hours.

    Regards,

    Luca

    Hi ,

Upgrade to  Dynamics 365 does not only depends on database size or the data you have in your database. It would depends on the customization which you made in your instance . Normally it should not take more than 2 hours if everything goes smooth.

I would suggest to keep at least 1  days down time for safer side and scheduled the up-gradation in the  weekend so that  if something goes wrong   fix or  restore instance immediately.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Goutam,

thank you for your input. I didn't know I could restore the instance after the update, I am assuming that will cause a full rollback to previous version.

Downtime is an issue because I am supporting customers with a 24/7 schedule, but I guess we will need to reach a compromise.

    Thanks again.

    Regards,

    Luca
