No Active Bill of Material Exists

Hi Everyone,

I have somewhat successfully imported all of my BOM's into AX 2009. When I go to the BOM Lines screen all of the materials and subassemblies show up as they should. The only problem that I seem to be having is that in BOM Designer, all BOM's appear as a red circle with a white x in it and at the top of the screen it says "No Active Bill of Material Exists". This is true for those assemblies that have subassemblies, the subassemblies also show up with a red circle and I can not open them up since it has a minus sign in front of it. When I click on them they give the same message at the top of the screen.

I have both approved all of the BOM's and made them active (via the import). I've even removed the approval and active state manually then put them back to approved and active and I end up with the same problem. How do I go about getting all of my active BOM's to actually be active?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry, You have to set a Site in the Setup tab of the BOM designer, then the BOM designer will show the Active BOM for that Site. The form might use the default Inventory site for the item - I don't know.

I can get it to work properly when I set a site and a revision (changed color to be revision), but I want I don't want to have every user go into setup everytime they want to see a BOM. Is there a way to set it up so it automatically fills these fields in. It even happens where there is only one version of a BOM.

    Thanks, Jerry

I think you're going to need to customise the BOM designer to get it to work like that. But try setting up an item with a BOM with a Site on it - I think the BOM designer might work then, but it's not a form I've seen used much.

    Hi Jerry,

When you launch BOM Designer form the released product form, the designer doesn't select the default configuration. I'm not sure why ...

Go in the "setup" tab of the designer, select a configuration and come back to the designer tab ... Does-it change anything ?
