Provision Active directory user accounts from Dynamics 365 for human resources

Posted on by 25

Hi friends,

I have come across https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/app-provisioning/plan-auto-user-provisioning . We use D365 for Human Resources for a year now and I am looking into the possibility of linking up the Azure AD with the dynamics. My aim is to automate user provisioning. Performing CRUD operations would just be an advantage.

Is there a way, to achieve this? Microsoft already has solutions for external apps and I am so looking forward to automate this.

Any idea?

Many thanks,

Kia

    HI Kia,

We have been struggling with this for months / years. MS have recently released these 2 articles that in combination may solve your problem. we will look to implement this.

In summary we have D365HR (Soon to be migrated to D365 Finance in 2023)

We have On Premise AD and Azure AD in hybrid mode with AD Sync Connectors (password write back etc)

But currently have to create users On Premise and then let them syn to Azure AD. then we can update azure AD and the write back takes care of most things,

We also have on-premise group management (Which we want to migrate)

We want to let the user creation process be triggered by HR to Azure AD and sync to On premise AD.

I think the below released in Oct and Nove 22 will allow this.

    learn.microsoft.com/.../plan-cloud-hr-provision

    learn.microsoft.com/.../how-to-install

You could use this to create the account and see if the new cloud sync works too.

We haven't done this yet but perhaps you will be successful before us.

    Regards

    Oscar

    Hi Kia,

I have done integrations in the past between (on-premise) AX 2012 and Active Directory. Also, I have done integrations between Dynamics 365 F&O and Azure AD. I have no experience with syncing Azure AD and AD myself.

    Hi Andre,

I am am looking into a HR driven user provisioning process with Dynamics 365 human resources and on-prem active directory directory services.

So far I have come across following solutions:

1- Using power platform - Power automate cloud + desktop unattended power automate

    Cons:

Needs to be hard coded and 2 workflow system to be maintained. Basically lots of maintenance.

    2- Using 3rd party iPaaS

    Cons:

To integrate a 3rd party tool to end to end MS products which does not really make sense.

I reckon there should be a better native way of doing this. Do you by any chance have experience with this?

    Thanks,

    Kia

I think what is initially asked for is well described here:

    - docs.microsoft.com/.../what-is-hr-driven-provisioning

    - docs.microsoft.com/.../workday-inbound-tutorial

It is unfortunate that there is no native connector/feature in D365 for this as there is for Workday.

In regard to Kias latest post I don't think the AAD Sync is fully relevant.

    Hi Kia,

You are responding to an old question. What exactly is your question with your last update?

    Hi André,

    I just found this: docs.microsoft.com/.../how-to-install

Basically a user provisioning on-prem agent. What is your take on this?

    Many thanks,

    Kia

Another question around this topic: any experience in using SailPoint, Okta or other 3rd party vendors for automated account provisioning, deprovisioning? I have seen that SailPoint have connectors towards the D365 CRM but are there others that could possibly support automated account provisioning, update, deprovisioning in Azure AD?

    Hi Adam,

I have a blog post on how to integrate Dynamics 365 HR with AAD. This was one of the roadmaps of Dynamics 365 HR however next year HR will merge back to F&O and Microsoft will plan to make the integration. I am not sure about the date.

See my blog post and if you have any questions then let me know.
