Trivia question : IV00102.QTYRQSTN - Qty Requisitioned fields

Hello Everybody.

We need an extra field at the item site level, and I notice this field (quantity requisitioned) is not used in our company / current methods (all values are 0).

I'm thinking of 're-purposing' the field and I'm trying to identify whether there may be negative consequences to doing so.

Anyone know when / how this field is used / populated / calculated / recalculated? Is it used in other calculations (ex. could it impact MRP workbench results?).

I have run a few tests and have not been able to see any negative impacts, so I'm hoping this is an "information only" field and I'm safe to use for our needs.

Thank you for your inputs.

Maria.

    Hello Frandz

In several implementations, including requisition management (Old one related to the business portal, and the new requisition management built inside Dynamics GP2013 R2 ), this field is zero

Unlike other fields such as; quantity sold, quantity on hand. ... etc, which are updated after every inventory-related transaction, and through inventory reconciliation, this field is not calculated. You can simply "enter" a number on this field to be used as an information.

We have always used additional fields, not only on the Item-site window, but on the item card itself. In several cases, the fields are used as well, but we simply use them safely. For instance, in specific cases we used the "standard cost" field which is already used, but since the inventory has a FIFO perpetual valuation method, we did smoothly.

So I do believe you are safe to go,

    Hi frandz,

While it's true that this has been an information only field for years, I would check the new requisitions module that was just released with Dynamics GP 2013.

If you are NOT using and WILL NOT use multi-bin inventory, there are a number of fields I think you could 're-purpose' related to multi-bin.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Thank you Mahmoud and Leslie for your replies.

I am running additional tests on the QTYRQSTN field - - a few more questions:

1/ Is there a way to change the data type of the field?

Or a way to change the data format without impacting other fields that use the same data type?

Ideally, I just want to change the format that displays to 2 decimal places and the currency symbol - however, it looks like this is tied in with the data type and impacts the display of other fields that share the data type.

2/ It looks like the field has some kind of running total going, where values entered at the site level are added to a running total at the "all sites" level. I'm thinking I may have to run a periodic routine to reset the "all sites" value to 0. Is there a more elegant option?

    Best regards,

    Maria.

    You are most welcome Frandz

There is no way to change the data type neither of this specific field or any other field in Dynamics GP, it is not only about Microsoft SQL server, there is a Dexterity layer involved.

As for the second question, you are totally right. For every item, there are two types of records. One summary record and several item-site records:

    • Record with type ALL Location (RCRDTYPE = 1)
    • record with type specific Location (RCRDTYPE = 2)

The following represents the structure of the table (from which, item-quantities retrieves data)

    >> Note: the summary field is updated after every transaction to summarize all the details. In addition, it gets recalculated when you run Inventory Reconciliation.

The same logic applies on the screen, when you choose a specific location, you will have the corresponding values. Otherwise, when leaving the location blank, summary values will be shown for all the locations.

As for Dynamics 2013 R2, I have done a rough test and can no find any relation between the line items on the requisition and this specific field, it is no updated accordingly.

Please feel free to verify the answer in case it fulfills your inquiry,

Never hesitate to share your concerns
